Indiana’s 2025-26 roster will be built this spring by new coach Darian DeVries, who will navigate the transfer portal to assemble his first team in Bloomington.

Inside the Hall will examine some of the prospects linked to the Hoosiers this spring. Today: Lincoln Memorial wing Elyjah Freeman.

Previously: Ryan Conwell, Josh Dix, Conor Enright

Numbers to know

31 career games at Lincoln Memorial: 18.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals in 30.9 minutes per game. Freeman shot 58.7 percent from the field, 45.6 percent on 3s and 80.7 percent from the free throw line.

Background and potential fit

After starring for Division II Lincoln Memorial University as a true freshman, Elyjah Freeman has become a coveted transfer prospect.

Despite being a McDonald’s All-American nominee his senior year at Wellington High School in Palm Beach, Florida, the 6-foot-8 forward received hardly any collegiate interest. His only offer came from Lincoln Memorial, but he quickly showed that he belonged at a higher level. After dominating his competition this past season en route to South Atlantic Conference freshman of the year honors, Freeman entered his name in the transfer portal on March 17.

He’s rated as a 4-star transfer by 247Sports and several high-major schools, including Indiana, are recruiting him. Kentucky reportedly contacted Freeman the day after the portal opened. Freeman could be an intriguing addition to an entirely revamped roster for head coach Darian DeVries and Indiana.

DeVries noted in his introductory press conference that he’ll emphasize perimeter shooting, which Indiana has sorely lacked in recent seasons.

“Shooting is a critical piece,” DeVries said on March 19. “… as we move forward and build a roster, we want plenty of depth in the shooting areas because I think you can’t win if you don’t make shots.”

DeVries’s son, Tucker, will bolster that aspect, and DePaul transfer Conor Enright (37.1 percent for his career) is also a capable 3-point shooter.

In Freeman, the Hoosiers could land a player with an impressive blend of size, athleticism and outside shooting. His volume wasn’t terribly high — he only attempted 57 triples last season — but his efficiency is promising. Freeman also shot 80.7 percent from the charity stripe, the third-best mark in the South Atlantic Conference, offering yet another sign he could be relied on to knock down shots when needed.

He scored at least 25 points on seven occasions and exploded for 36 and 35 points in consecutive games in early January.

Freeman uses his strength to overpower defenders on drives, but he also flashes finesse and an ability to make acrobatic finishes at the rim. It’s difficult to project whether or not he’ll be able to replicate his success at the high major level, but he certainly has the tools to be a legitimate contributor.
