Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis were the first dominos to fall in the last 24 hours or so, but the way analysts like ESPN’s Shams Charania have been talking on TV, they might not be the last.
Ever since the beginning of the playoffs, it was reported that the Celtics were going to be making big moves this offseason to get under the dreaded second apron. However, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White continue to be names brought up by Shams suggesting there are huge trade packages on the table for both of them.

Shams has been reporting this same type of interest from teams on the Pat McAfee Show seemingly every time he’s been on since the end of May, but colleague Brian Windhorst went on First Take this morning and echoed a similar sentiment saying, “There are teams in the top-10 of the draft that are making offers… I say at midnight Jaylen Brown is still a Celtic, Derrick White is still a Celtic and they run it back and they get ready to go in 2026-27, but I don’t know for sure that is gonna happen.”

Normally this type of speculation is something you can ignore, but it’s hard not to notice when there’s smoke, there might also be a little fire. Teams have most likely offered the Celtics a lot for Brown and White’s services, but I just don’t see a world where Boston pulls the trigger.
Jayson Tatum will most likely miss all of next season and I don’t think it’s smart to gut the entire roster around him. The only way I see them trading Brown or White is if they get a package on the level of the Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce trade from the Brooklyn Nets, and even then, the Celtics would probably want an elite young player along with a ton of draft picks.

The Celtics are officially under the second apron after trading Holiday and Porzingis and that was the main goal of the offseason. Unless they are really committed to shedding even more salary, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White should be on the Celtics roster next season.
