Per Elliotte Friedman, we have a little bit more of a concrete K’Andre Miller trade rumor. While most of the focus has been on Bowen Byram being available, Friedman was told the Rangers are testing the market on Miller, seeing what’s available and what’s out there. Miller’s name has been thrown around a bit since before the trade deadline, so this shouldn’t be a surprise. It will take a lot to pry Miller from the Rangers though, even with a poor season last year.
Miller, who is 25 and a pending restricted free agent with arbitration rights, is one of the Rangers better trade chips at the moment, but trading him likely means the Rangers hang onto Carson Soucy, so don’t get too excited if you’re hoping to see him traded. And there are a lot of you that hope he’s traded.
Miller is a great skater who has been anchored by bad defense partners and/or the toughest defense matchups on the team. It makes sense to hear a solid K’Andre Miller trade rumor, but he won’t be dumped for peanuts. If he’s traded, it will be for something tangible that the Rangers need right now.
