Aside from a core shake up, the biggest offseason story for the Rangers will be what they do with their key RFAs. K’Andre Miller and Will Cuylle are the big ticket RFAs due for significant increases, but the Rangers also have Adam Edstrom, Matt Rempe, Arthur Kaliyev, and Zac Jones as RFAs. While the K’Andre Miller and Will Cuylle contract projections are the big ones, the others shouldn’t be ignored and are quite reasonable.
As a reminder, the projections here are from Evolving Hockey’s contract projections. The term provided is just the most probable term. Naturally, changing the term changes the projected AAV.
- Miller: 4 years, $5.9 million
- Cuylle: 3 years, $3.2 million
- Zac Jones: 2 years, $1.2 million
- Arthur Kaliyev: 1 year, $1.1 million
- Adam Edstrom: 2 years, $1 million
- Matt Rempe: 2 years, $1 million
Miller, Jones, and Kaliyev all have arbitration rights. Miller’s projection includes two UFA years. Cuylle’s projection takes him to 26 years old and an RFA with arbitration rights.
All of these projections are fair, though I’m sure the Will Cuylle contract projection is the one many are focusing on. When you get to 7 or 8 years, taking Cuylle into his 30’s, the AAV gets between $4.6 million and $5.6 million. Cuylle’s is fairly straight forward, unlike Key’s, as he’s a guy that has seen his name in the rumor mill. More to come on that, of course.
