The heir apparent has been named. Kenny Albert will replace Sam Rosen in the Rangers broadcasting booth starting next season. This was the most logical move for the Rangers, as Albert has been one of Sam’s backup play by play callers for multiple seasons now, and fans have a familiarity with him. Joe Michelletti will remain in the booth as well, giving Kenny a smooth transition to full time Rangers play by play duties.
Alex Faust, a guy many had pegged for the full time role, will serve as Kenny’s backup when he’s unavailable. Since he does many national games and broadcasts multiple sports, we will likely get a lot of Faust over the next few years. It would not surprise me if we hear Faust eventually take over for Kenny at some point in the future.
It was nice to see Sam and JD in the booth the other night, for one last hurrah. Sam has just two games remaining, and Kenny will continue to bring quality play by play to Ranger games starting next season.
