Kings interested in Scott Perry, Calvin Booth for GM job

League sources say Scott Perry, who was the Kings’ vice president of basketball operations for three months in 2017 before being hired away as the New York Knicks’ general manager, is expected to receive strong consideration for the job and is considered a frontrunner. Perry, whose 25-year front office career has also included time with the Detroit Pistons, Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic, had a strong working relationship with Ranadive during his Sacramento stint and worked closely with then-general manager Vlade Divac.

Former Denver Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth is also expected to be given consideration, league sources said. Booth, who was fired by the Nuggets recently along with coach Michael Malone, previously interviewed with the Kings before they hired McNair in the summer of 2020. While Divac continues to have a presence and voice around the team, including with Ranadive, team sources say he will not be returning in any formal capacity to the team’s front office. -via New York Times / April 17, 2025
If McNair and Sacramento part ways, the Houston Rockets have been mentioned as a potential landing spot. McNair worked for the Rockets from 2007-2020. Meanwhile, interim coach Doug Christie has gone 27-24 since taking over for Brown. Christie is said to be liked by Kings governor Vivek Ranadive and has support from former Kings teammate and executive Vlade Divac. Nuggets interim coach David Adelman has since guided Denver to a 3-0 record to finish the season, earned the fourth seed in the West, and has a real chance to keep the job going forward, league sources told HoopsHype. While Daryl Morey publicly stated he and coach Nick Nurse are both returning to Philadelphia next season, there’s an expectation that Nurse’s assistant coaching staff will see changes this offseason, league sources told HoopsHype. -via HoopsHype / April 16, 2025
SAM AMICK: And I—you know, within that—I would note that everything old might be new again. You know, Vlade Divac has been around a lot more lately, and that’s another talking point in league circles.” Host (interjecting): “Wait, wait—what? Hold on. Wait, what? I mean, we’ve seen him, but what’s the talking point? Jason? Or Jason, I’m looking at Jason—what’s the talking point, Sam?” SAM AMICK: “That—I mean, again—we’ve talked about how Vivek, a lot of his stuff is pretty transparent. You’ve got the power seat at games, and you figure out who he’s hanging out with and who he’s listening to. One night it’s Alvin Gentry, the other it’s Anjali, and the next—it’s Vlade. I mean, all I can tell you is that with Wes having headed out—and you guys know some of the machinations that happen within a team, where there’s got to be communication— For one, people seem to forget that Vlade still has a formal title with the team. I always forget what it is—it’s like, you know, ‘Head of Franchise Operations’ or something. -via YouTube / March 29, 2025
