- Konami and world-famous football association FIFA are set to partner once more
- Two tournaments of the new FIFAe digital World Cup will debut for mobile and console
- 18 nations have been invited to be represented, and qualifiers are open now
World famous publisher Konami and football association FIFA are set to introduce a digital version of the World Cup set in the hit multiplatform sports sim, eFootball. The new partnership will see two tournaments taking place, one for mobile and one for console, and it’s starting this very month!
Qualifiers open today, and 18 nations will be represented at the inaugural tournaments, including Argentina, Morocco and Thailand. Naturally, the announcement is accompanied by a glitzy new trailer promoting the tournament. More information on the tournament and how to qualify can be found on the official Konami eFootball site.
For fans of eFootball, this will be exciting news, as the competition is open to all players. Meanwhile, for Konami and FIFA the benefits are obvious, as since dumping EA the association seems to have been shopping around for a new partner that will bring the beautiful game into the homes of players around the world.

This is a move I can definitely see being a major new step for both FIFA and Konami. It’s no secret that EA’s FIFA series has been one of the most popular avenues for people to experience the sport for years. However, since their unamicable break up it appears that FIFA have yet to recapture the same reach of interactive media that EA once gave them. So, this is a win for Konami, but right now the pressure is on to show that eFootball reaches as much, if not a greater, audience.
