Kovacevic becomes Merrimack’s all-time leading NHL point scorer

Former Merrimack defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic has had a great start to the NHL season. Kovacevic was traded to the New Jersey Devils in the offseason for a fourth-round pick. In 12 games with his new club, Kovacevic has six points (1g-5a), averaging 22 minutes per night.

That workload will likely decrease when Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce return to the lineup, but Kovacevic has been a legitimate top-four defenseman for the Devils so far.

Kovacevic recently passed Steve McKenna to become Merrimack’s all-time leading NHL scorer. McKenna still leads all alums with 373 NHL games, 18 goals, and a whopping 824 penalty minutes.
