Today an upcoming event in Fortnite Festival featuring popular singer and songwriter Lady Gaga has been announced.
The announcement comes from the artist’s own official X (formerly Twitter) account, where she posted the artwork you can see above with the date February 22, 2024.
Funnily, she posted that while quoting her own “What’s fortnight” tweet from 2019, which has basically become a viral meme.
At the moment, the extent of the event has not been revealed, but the official X account of the game has been fanning the flames implying that we may see new songs and perhaps even skins. It remains to be seen whether we’ll see an actual performance.
This is not the first time that content related to Lady Gaga appears in Fortnite Festival, as her song “Bad Romance” was part of the launch lineup for the game.
If you’re unfamiliar with Fortnite Festival, it’s a full-fledged rhythm game developed by Harmonix, which basically pioneered the genre by creating incredibly successful games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
It launched within Epic Games’ massively popular battle royale game-turned-metaverse Fortnite back in December with over 600,000 peak concurrent users. While since then the numbers have cooled quite a bit, it’s not unlikely that Lady Gaga‘s inclusion with a larger scope will reignite the game’s flame.
It launched together with Psyonix’s Rocket Racing and LEGO Fortnite (which proved to be the most successful of the three games with 2.4 million peak concurrent players), marking an acceleration in Epic Games’ plans to turn the battle royale game into a full-fledged metaverse offering a variety of experiences and genres.
Just recently, we heard of a massive deal with Disney, which will lead to the creation of a large persistent universe connected to Fortnite utilizing Epic’s technology and know-how. The house of Mickey Mouse went as far as investing $1.5 billion to acquire an undisclosed stake in Epic Games for the purpose.
