Leaked Sparring Video: Abdullah Mason Dominates Floyd Schofield In Edited YouTube Clip – Analysis

Abdullah Mason vs. Floyd Scofield sparring video was leaked today on YouTube, showing ‘Kid Austin’ getting dominated by the Top Rank-promoted Mason. Most of the video shows the southpaw lightweight contender, Mason, stalking Schofield around the ring, hitting him with big shots to the head and body.

Schofield missed a lot, held, and was off balance after throwing shots. He looked uncomfortable and in distress at times with the pressure from the taller 5’9″ Mason. Toward the end of the spar, Schofield landed some big right-hand shots to the head and body of Abdullah.

Leaked Sparring Video Analysis

The leaked sparring clip refutes what Floyd Schofield Sr. said about his son having to go easy on Mason. What we see from the edited video is that Mason dominated the entire 3.27-minute clip. What we don’t know is who edited the clip and what was removed.

It’s quite possible that whoever did the editing had an agenda to make Abdullah look good. So, the parts where he looked good were left intact, while the areas where Schofield was dominating were edited out. With an edited video, you just don’t know.

Sparring Clip Age & Context

We don’t know how long ago the sparring took place. Schofield looked a lot bigger in his last fight against Tevin Farmer on June 28th than he does in the video. In that fight, he appeared 15 to 20 pounds heavier than he did in the sparring.

This suggests this clip is at least 1-2 years old. That might not sound like much for an older fighter, but it makes a significant difference for someone in their early 20s who is still developing.

Besides the age and the selective editing of the video, the glove size and headgear take away any meaning to gauge who would win a fight between them. Those look like 16-ounce gloves both fighters are wearing, and they take away a lot of the impact of the shots.
