Maple Leafs Take 2-0 Series Lead, Triumphing Over Sens 3-2 In Overtime

With the Stanley Cup Playoffs underway, The Maple Leafs would look to take a 2-0 series lead on the Ottawa Senators in game 2.

Ottawa would look to answer the Leafs thrashing last Sunday and tie the series at one apiece.

“The last game doesn’t mean much unless you follow it up with a good effort,” McCabe said about following up on the Leafs’ game 1 performance.

Scotiabank Arena would once again be filled with passion with many fans wanting to get the action started.

In the first period, Toronto would continue where they had left off in game one by showing their dominance right from puck drop as Mitch Marner would hit the post on a great chance.

The Leafs would follow that up being reward with the first goal of the game as William Nylander would send one in front of the net that was able to tip of Morgan Rielly’s skate and into the net.

Not soon after, the Leafs would find themselves with the first powerplay of the night where Toronto would make it a 2-0 game, with John Tavares getting his second goal of the postseason.

The game would stay 2-0 for the Buds heading into the middle frame.

From This point, it would have looked like the Leafs would once again be running the Senators out of the building but Ottawa would find a way to pushback.

In the seconds period of play, Ottawa would turn on the intensity and flip the momentum to their side of the ice.

Ottawa would find themselves being awarded a powerplay where Brady Tkachuk would swing one in front of the net that would hit off Leafs defenseman Brandon Carlos’s skate and into the net, cutting the Leafs lead to one.

Leafs netminder Anthony Stolarz would keep this game 2-1 heading into the final frame saving the Leafs from the momentum they had lost from the first period.

In the third fighting for a goal, Senators forward Adam Gaudette would tip one past Stolarz tying the game at two.

With the clock winding down, the Leafs and Senators would find themselves heading to overtime.

This would not take to long as Simon Benoit would make a fantastic play from his own end sending the puck to Max Domi, where he was able to fire one post and in past Linus Ullmark. The passion spread through the Arena even with Domi’s Father, Tie in attendance, cheering on his sons overtime winner.

“Big win, on to the next one now,” Domi said on the team finishing the job in Overtime.

Craig Berube had a chance to express his opinions on how he felt his team played in yesterday nights action.

“Its great to see that goal by Max (Domi), you know obviously a great play,” He said. “The goal (Senators 2-2 goal in the third period) was the first shot we gave up in the third period. We were playing the right way and doing the right things, it was a mistake and mistakes happen but we stayed with it and ended up getting the win.”

This would give the Leafs a 2-0 series lead which is the first time in the Auston Matthews era and hasn’t happened since 2002.

Even with the Leafs holding all of the Cards with a 2-0 series lead, far more hockey is still to be played as they head to Ottawa for game 3 of the series this Thursday, looking to take a stranglehold on the Sens.
