Matt Rempe suspended 8 games

As expected, Matt Rempe has been suspended 8 games by the NHL for his egregious hit on Miro Heiskanen in Dallas on Friday night. With Rempe suspended, the Rangers will keep him on the roster through the January 9 game against the Devils. Jimmy Vesey and/or Jonny Brodzinski will be in the lineup in the interim.

Rempe, who had been playing quite well up until that point, went to hit Heiskanen along the boards, but had his full arm extended and caught Heiskanen with an elbow to the head and crunched him into the boards. Naturally, we know that’s a bad hit.

Quite honestly: Shame on the Rangers for turning Rempe into a side show. The kid should be allowed to play his game and learn how to be an effective NHLer. Instead, he’s essentially the team mascot. It’s inexcusable. The kid has the tools to be a fine fourth liner, so let him grow them in the AHL.
