The Rangers have recalled defenseman Matthew Robertson, and he will make his NHL debut tomorrow in Sunrise against the Florida Panthers. With the Rangers officially eliminated from playoff contention, Peter Laviolette is no longer “playing for the playoffs” and is “playing the kids.” Quotes used for a reason because if you’ve been watching for the past week, the kids should’ve been playing all along.
Along with Robertson making his debut, Gabe Perreault and Brennan Othmann will also return to the lineup after missing the last few games as healthy scratches. We’ve covered the lunacy behind scratching Perreault despite burning a year on his ELC, and scratching Othmann along with him made little sense as well.
Now if only Zac Jones could get into the lineup. It would be nice to see if he can actually stick, since he’s a young puck moving defenseman that can skate. But, you know, Rangers gonna Rangers.
