The Merrimack men’s basketball team will spend Thanksgiving in Philadelphia as part of the 2025 Cathedral of College Basketball Classic. The tournament will also feature Penn, La Salle, and Hofstra.
Penn hosts the multi-team event (MTE) at The Palestra, one of the most historic gyms in college basketball. The event will take place from Nov. 28-30 and will have a full round-robin format (every team will play one another one time each).
The Palestra opened in 1927. When it opened, it was one of the largest arenas in the world (seating 10,000 people).
ESPN produced a documentary on the arena entitled “The Palestra: Cathedral of College Basketball” that aired in 2007.
