Minnesota All Star Week Recap

Minnesota was one of the very last states throughout the nation to wrap up their high school season, but there was one final stop to wrap things up for the class of 2025 in the Land of 10,000 Lakes: The postseason all-star games.

Between the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Series and the Twin Cities Senior Expo, we were able to take in eight games filled with seniors writing the final chapters on their high school career. The seniors in Minnesota played the games like they were playing for money because in fact, many of them were. There were a number of players who are D1 talents fighting for scholarships, awaiting all of the coaching changes and activity in the transfer portal to slow. A few of the state’s high major players in the state took some time off to rest, so this gave some of the lesser known D1 talent a chance to shine and show their games in front of the 50+ college coaches in attendance between the various events.

Here are the top performers from the MNBCA All Star Series and Twin Cities Senior Expo:

Chase Thompson, 6’9, PF, Alexandria HS

Chase Thompson ended his high school basketball career in absolute idealic fashion.  The face-up forward led Alexandria to their first ever state title, won Minnesota Mr. Basketball, and put on a show in the MBCA All-Star Series.  Thompson has continued to grow as a complete forward, utiilizing his size on the block against smaller defenders while also stretching the defense with his ability to shoot it with range. Equally as impressive is the ability Thompson has developed to create for others as a passer, which leaves plenty of room for optimism for his career at a resurgent Clemson program in the ACC.

Micah Curtis, 6’7, SF/PF, St. Louis Park HS

One of the more impressive physical specimens in Minnesota’s class of 2025, Micah Curtis is an ideal inside/outside threat. The J-Sizzle forward is able to punish you in the pivot with his strength, is an explosive finisher above the rim, and has continued to grow as a 3-point shooter with his feet set. Headed to North Dakota State with his twin brother Micah, the Summit League will certainly have a handful to deal with by way of the Curtis twins.

TJ Stuttley, 6’4, SG, Benilde St. Margaret’s

One of the better unsigned seniors in the state, TJ Stuttley made the move to Minnesota from Wisconsin and showed that he could hold his own with the Land of 10,000 Lakes’ best. Stuttley is an explosive straight line driver, is able to facilitate for others, and is able to put points on the board in a hurry when he gets hot. Having received a USA Basketball trials invite in his younger years, Stuttley has shown his ability to compete with the highest level and is going to be an outstanding late signing period addition.

J.J. Semanko, 6’5,SG/SF, Hopkins HS

One of the few players to play in both the TC Senior Expo and MBCA All-Star Series, J.J. Semanko reminded everyone why he is one of the more intriguing seniors left on the board in Minnesota. Totally playing within himself, the swingman defended a number of perimeter positions, knows how to score with limited dribbles, and finds ways to consistently score via cuts/offensive rebounds. Coming from an uber-talented Hopkins squad, Semanko is a plug and play guy who knows him to play with other high caliber players.

Sam Hondl, 6’7, SF/PF, Albany HS

Fresh off a state title run for Albany High School with a 23-point, 7-rebound, 6-assist performance, Sam Hondl wrapped up his high school career with a bang. The versatile forward has a nice straight line burst to the rim, can create for others, and knows how to utilize his size on both ends of court. Heading to D2 power Minnesota State Moorhead, Hondl is next in line of a number of players with D1 potential for a program that has won three of the last four conference titles.
