Must Cs: fans honor Mike Gorman one last time

After Mike Gorman’s final regular season game, I wrote:

There’s a subtle mastery of calling a basketball game. Say too much and you’re making it about yourself. Explain too much and you’re making it about yourself. Be too loud and you’re making it about yourself. But if you paint the picture with just enough nuance and detail, you give the audience a chance to find themselves in the moment. That’s Mike Gorman.

I’ll always appreciate Gorman’s tactile approach and often poetic voice mixed in with his court reporter focus to the game. He’s been the soundtrack of my basketball life.

In Boston’s rout of Miami in Game 5, we had some signature Gorman calls, including his patented “got it” after this Jaylen Brown 3:

Or this side eye burn heading into a timeout:

And this killer line on Tyler Herro:

Before his final buzzer, the TD Garden faithful sent him off with a standing O.

Check out Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix final interview with Gorman on his favorite memory, his favorite player, and what he plans to do in retirement that includes writing a book and spending time with his granddaughter.

In his final words after calling the Celtics for the last 43 years, Gorman signed off, saying, “a special thanks to all who welcomed Tommy, Scal, and me into your homes all winter long when there was a cold night going on outside, you turned us on. There’s no place I would have rather been. So, Boston, thank you. Good night.”

No, thank you, Mike. We love you.
