Myles Turner was second on Pascal Siakam's dream teammate list behind only Kevin Durant

As the longtime Pacers center sat courtside at Golden 1 Center on Wednesday, there was an unmistakable irony that came with the conversation about the state of this Indiana squad. For years, there was chatter about the imperfect fit between him and former Pacers big man and current Kings star Domantas Sabonis. The February 2022 trade that sent Tyrese Haliburton to Indiana and Sabonis to Sacramento brought an end to that discussion, but it’s fair to wonder if those types of concerns might remain. The answer, as I learned from Turner and speaking to league sources close to PascalSiakam, is a resounding no. And the reason, it seems, is rooted in the fact this pairing is one that the newest Pacer has been hoping would come to fruition for years now. During all those years in Toronto, Siakam would tell people close to him how Turner was the kind of stretch five who would work wonders for his game. After his dream scenario of the Raptors somehow landing Kevin Durant, league sources say, Turner was next up on his list of players with whom he would love to play.

Indiana did not have cap space this offseason to sign Pascal Siakam outright.
They would have needed to:
– Decline the Bruce Brown team option
– Renounce Buddy Hield and Obi Toppin
– Waive TJ McConnell
All of that before free agency started. – 2:35 PM

Pacers get Siakam to team with Haliburton. Whether it’s Heat, Knicks, Cavs or Pacers, that 4-5 series in East will be fun (unless one of those can move up)… Though Heat often gets underestimated, Austin Rivers said on ESPN yesterday that he’s not sure 76ers can beat Miami. – 2:26 PM

Among the 61 #NBA players using over 18 possessions per game, Pascal Siakam is tied for 13th in offensive efficiency. He is one of the only players in the league using over 10% of his possession both as the ball handler in pick and rolls and going one-on-one in the post. – 2:26 PM
Bobby Manning @RealBobManning
Interesting that #Raptors took back Bruce Brown in this deal. Obviously he’s the big $ to match Siakam but #Pacers probably liked him and he has a team option.
Wonder if TOR flips him similarly to how POR used Holiday to get extra value for Lillard. Would make this an A+ trade. – 2:26 PM

This is a gamble by the Pacers. Siakam is 29. Haliburton is 23. They’re betting that Haliburton is ready to compete for a title now. Roster still has holes, but Indiana has time to make other moves around its new core duo. – 2:25 PM
