Nintendo Switch 2 could be biggest launch in game industry history, could cost $400 or more

One of the bigger questions surrounding Nintendo Switch 2 currently is what the system will cost and when it will launch. We should be getting those answers in the near future, but as the wait continues, there’s a feeling going around that the system could have the biggest launch in game industry history, even if analysts are expecting it to cost more than its predecessor.

Bloomberg shared a report today which states that Switch 2 could “become Nintendo’s priciest machine to date, as analysts who regularly communicate with the company and its software and hardware partners anticipate a price tag of $400 or more.” On top of that, there’s the issue of how much Nintendo’s margins could be impacted by tariffs. Still, there’s the sentiment that there’s significant demand among consumers.

Yijia Zhai of UBS believes Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in June with six to eight million units available on the market. Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein seems to have similar views. To compare, Nintendo Switch sold 2.7 million units in its first month. The last two PlayStation launches came in at 4.5 million for their first quarters.

Hiroshi Yamashina, an analyst at Macquarie Capital, believes the price will be between $399 and $449. Yamashina further anticipates sales of twenty million units in its first year on the market.

Thanks to Bloomberg for today’s news. We should be hearing much more about Nintendo Switch 2 during an upcoming presentation, which is set for April 2.
