The Rangers took all their frustrations out on the Islanders on Thursday night, absolutely destroying them as they prepare to play golf this summer. The win kept the Rangers’ impossibly slim playoff hopes alive, with Montreal needing a single point in the next three games to officially eliminate the Blueshirts. The Rangers would also need to win out against Carolina, Florida, and Tampa, arguably the three best teams in the East. Strange things happen, but this would certainly be the strangest.
Since the Rangers blew out the Isles, it’s safe to assume that the lineup from Thursday will remain the same. That means Gabe Perreault and Brennan Othmann would be healthy scratches, though we don’t have confirmation yet. Zac Jones is also in the press box, so that’s three high ceiling kids sitting in a lost season. Make it make sense.
