Oilers Obliterate Capitals, 7-2; Ivan Miroshnichenko, Connor McMichael Score

The Washington Capitals fell to the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday at Rogers Place. The loss dropped the Capitals’ record to 30-25-9 and 69 points on the season. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves in the loss.

First Period

Oilers center Leon Draisaitl would give his home team an early 1-0 lead at the 4:36 mark.

Captain Connor McDavid would extend Edmonton’s lead, 2-0, at the 6:58 mark on a power-play.

With their first shot on goal, the Capitals would get on the board thanks to Miroshnichenko (2) just 92 seconds later. Jensen (9) assisted.

On the Capitals’ second shot of the night, McMichael (13) tied the game at two-a-piece during a man advantage. Ovechkin (31) and Pacioretty (13) had the assists.

The Oilers would regain the lead, 3-2, with a goal from left-wing Zach Hyman at the 11:24 mark.
