Panthers lose lead, game to Flyers, 4-3


PHILADELPHIA – The visiting Florida Panthers took a 2-0 first period lead on Monday over the Flyers. The lead evaporated in the third period when the Flyers rallied back for three goals in the final frame to take a 4-3 win win.

“You see the difference when we’re dictating the pace and when we’re playing our game,” Florida’s Sam Reinhart said. “We carry the play. Just got away from that, played into their hands a little bit, played into their game a little bit and we were on our heels. That’s the difference from the first period to the next two.”

The Flyers’ Noah Cates s hit for a double in the win.

Samuel Ersson made 20 saves in the win.

Reinhart hit for the fist of two on the night on a shorthanded strike to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first.

Uvis Balinskis pushed the lead to 2-0.

“We were pretty soft in the first,” Cates said. “… To get started like that was definitely a jump for us.”

Garnet Hathaway trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the middle frame.

Cates scored the first of his double early in the third to tie the game, 2-2.

Reinhart’s double put the Panthers back in front, 3-2.

Morgan Frost tied the game, 3-3 in the third.

Cates’ second of the night gave the Flyers the 4-3 lead they protected for the win.

“Every player wants responsibility, and we’re certainly giving it to him,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “He sees the door’s open as far as the minutes that he’s getting.”

Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves in the loss.
