- Plants Vs Zombies 3 has been pulled from soft launch
- But fear not, EA says it’s only so the team can work on a major overhaul
- Those with the game downloaded can enjoy it until November 15th
As spotted by Mobilegamer.biz, EA has announced that Plants Vs Zombies 3 has been pulled from the App Store and Google Play once again. But do not fear! A blog post from the developer explains that it’s not going for good. Instead, its removal is to allow time for the team to overhaul various mechanics.
It’s been taken down from storefronts immediately, and if you already have access to PVZ 3, from today, you will no longer be able to buy in-app purchases. Then, on November 15th, the servers will shut down, removing access regardless of if you have it downloaded. So, that gives you one month to get your fill of shooting peas and catapulting cabbages at zombies sporting traffic cones on their heads.
Your coin balance will remain if you’ve linked your Google Play, Apple ID or EA Account. However, any boosts and game progress will get reset once the revamped version of Plants Vs Zombies 3 arrives sometime in the future. We have no date when beyond ‘soon’, a tactically vague word choice.
Plants Vs Zombies 3 has been a hit-and-miss project for EA for some time now. Its first stint in soft launch came in 2020 before the team tried again in January. The developers and EA clearly think they have something worth pursuing here but evidently want to get the formula right before releasing it into the wild.
I played it earlier this year following the soft launch and thought it was a solid offering. My only real issue was that there wasn’t much in the way of challenge. I found myself breezing through most of the levels without much thought, swiftly leading to me falling off from playing. Of course, I can’t comment on the PVZ 3’s current state as they’ve made several updates since.
