The Preds return home after a successful outing in Dallas and a disappointing one in Denver to host the Rangers.

The New York Rangers

Artemi Panarin is still wowing the crowds, with a team-leading 15 goals and 36 points. Defender Adam Fox has 24 assists, and young William Cuylle is off to a strong start with 11 goals. Familiar names like Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, and Alexis Lafrenière are also regular contributors.

Jonathan Quick is turning in an impressive performance in goal, and Igor Shesterkin has been no slouch either. Despite the Rangers’ traditional porous defense, they’re still getting more-than-adequate goaltending, though they’ve honed their offense some since the Lundqvist era. Their power play is just average, but their penalty kill has been lights-out.

Despite a promising start to the season, though, the Rangers have had more struggles, and met with a lot less success, of late.

Data visualization showing the Rangers’ season so far, with the first half of their games played showing good puck luck and a strong start, with a resulting winning record, before the puck luck and the gameplay turned and the losses started flowing regularly.

Will the Preds be able to capitalize on that?
