The Rangers and restricted free agent forward Juuso Parssinen have agreed on a 2 year contract extension around $1.25 million per season. Parssinen was acquired from Colorado, who three months earlier acquired him from Nashville, in the Ryan Lindgren / Jimmy Vesey trade at the deadline. Parssinen struggled with the Rangers, but so did everyone. With that cap hit, he’s a viable 13/14F in the bottom-six.
The Juuso Parssinen contract extension is a decent enough one for the Rangers, who need cheap NHL depth. Parssinen likely isn’t cracking the top-12, especially if the entire fourth line of Adam Edstrom-Sam Carrick-Matt Rempe is ready to start next season. He’d be a fill-in for a bottom-six injury, as needed.
If the Rangers also extend Arthur Kaliyev, then Parssinen will compete with him for the 13F spot, with the “loser” getting the 14F spot. It’s worth noting that Kaliyev would be a better fit as a temporary top-six replacement, whereas Parssinen is best suited in the bottom-six.
