Per Emily Kaplan, the Rangers and Mike Sullivan are in advanced talks to become the next head coach of the New York Rangers. Sullivan catapulted to the top of Chris Drury’s head coach list after he was dismissed by the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this week. Sullivan has been on Drury’s radar for three years now, and once he was let go, it was only a matter of time.
Sullivan will bring a good blend of simplified systems and speed to the Rangers on-ice style of play, something sorely needed after four seasons of hybrid complexity. Sullivan is also a hard nosed coach, something this core could use as well.
It’s expected that John Tortorella will also join Sullivan’s staff as an associate coach.
