Per PuckPedia, the Rangers have re-signed forward Brendan Brisson to a one year, two way contract. The contract comes with a $775,000 cap hit at the NHL level (unlikely to happen) and a $100,000 salary in the AHL with $125,000 guaranteed. Brisson was acquired in the Reilly Smith trade at the deadline and put up 2-4-6 with Hartford in 16 games. The former first round pick in 2020 is, at this point, an AHL forward unless he’s a late bloomer.
For the conspiracy theorists, Brisson is also the son of NHL agent Pat Brisson. Pat represents a certain center from Vegas who may hit unrestricted free agency next year: Jack Eichel. Chris Drury tried and failed spectacularly at acquiring Eichel from Buffalo, and it appears part of his plan is to land the soon-to-be-29-year-old center in free agency next year. Having Brisson’s son in the organization probably helps, right?
I’m not sure how much having Brendan Brisson in the organization will sway Jack Eichel, but it’s fun to feed this conspiracy theory. At least this one is rooted in some level of fact.
