Report: IU basketball contacts LSU transfer wing Tyrell Ward – Inside the Hall

According to a report published Saturday morning, Indiana is among the schools that are consistently in contact with the LSU transfer wing, Tyrell Ward.

Sam Keyser reported that IU is one of six schools Ward consistently hears from, along with West Virginia, Maryland, NC State, Virginia and VCU.

The 6-foot-6 wing played at DeMatha High School, which produced former IU star Victor Oladipo. Ward last played in the 2023-24 season at LSU and stepped away from the program before the 2024-25 to focus on his mental health.

New IU assistant coach Kenny Johnson has strong ties to the DMV area, which encompasses Washington, D.C., and parts of Maryland and Virginia.

Ward has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

As a sophomore for the Tigers in the 2023-24 season, Ward averaged 9.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 41.3 percent on 3s and 67.8 percent from the free-throw line. He started 10 of the team’s 31 games.

In his freshman season at LSU, Ward made eight starts over 23 games and averaged 3.7 points and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 34.8 percent on 3s.

He is a career 39.5 percent 3-point shooter (126 attempts).

Ward originally signed with Xavier out of high school but reopened his recruitment in March 2022. He signed with LSU just over a month later.

As a high school prospect, Ward was ranked the No. 34 player nationally by the 247Sports Composite rankings and a four-star. He played for Boo Williams on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit.
