Another day, another conflicting report about the Rangers untouchables this offseason. Despite what some common logic might deduce, Arthur Staple is reporting that there are only 3 Rangers untouchables this offseason: Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox, and Igor Shesterkin. This seems counter to popular belief that Panarin would be dangled for the right price and might even be their best trade chip given his status as a UFA after this coming season.
A massive grain of salt is needed here, as the list of Rangers untouchables does not include players we know they aren’t trading: JT Miller, Vincent Trocheck, Will Cuylle, and Gabe Perreault. Jonathan Quick is probably on that list too, but that’s splitting hairs.
As always, it’s important to see if these things pass the sniff test. For Fox and Shesterkin, obviously this makes sense. Not so much for Panarin though, as he’s still not only being mentioned in rumors, but will bring back their best return (assumed). For now, this is something to watch, but not something to perhaps take as gospel.
