River Dragons Clinch 3rd Place Seed

Columbus, GA – The Columbus River Dragons defeated the Athens Rock Lobsters in regulation last night, 3-1, clinching the 3rd place seed in the FPHL Commissioner’s Cup Playoffs.

Kyle Moore scored the first two goals, including the game-winning goal. His first goal was scored on a River Dragons power play in the first period, as he faked circling the net and deflected it off the skate of William Lavalliere.

His second goal was scored in the second period after a deflection of Carter Shinkaruk’s stick fed Moore the puck, and fired his shot over the shoulder of William Lavalliere.

Although the Rock Lobsters closed the gap to a one-point deficit, Jestin Somero reset the Dragons’ lead to two points in the third period.

The River Dragons took the W in regulation, 3-1.

Following the River Dragons’ victory against Athens, as well as the Carolina Thunderbirds‘ shootout win over the Monroe Moccasins, Columbus clinched the third place seed in the FPHL Commissioner’s Cup Playoffs.

The Athens Rock Lobsters and Columbus River Dragons will square off in the first round in Columbus for Game 1, and games two and three (if needed) will take place in Athens.

The River Dragons will battle the Rock Lobsters again tonight to finish their weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
