Jose Ramirez’s trainer, Robert Garcia, is furious with Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, for posting on X a photo of Ramirez in the back of an ambulance after their fight last Friday at Times Square in New York. Bill said, “Jose Ramírez ended up in the back of an ambulance while Devin sat ringside, laughing.”
Ambulance Claim
Robert reacted to Bill’s post, letting fans know that he’s a liar, and that ALL fighters at the Times Square event last Friday had to be checked out in the ambulance parked outside after their fights. It was part of the routine told to the fighters during the rules meeting in the locker room before their fights. Robert is angry that Bill tried to give fans the impression that Devin’s punches had sent Ramirez to the hospital.
Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) showed no power in the fight and used movement and clinching all night. The shots he threw were mostly the keep-away variety to prevent Ramirez from getting to him. Devin won the fight by a wide 12-round unanimous decision 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110.
“I have nothing but respect for the Haneys. But for Bill to post a picture of Jose in the ambulance, and say something like they hurt him and they sent him to the hospital. He knows he’s lying to himself,” said trainer Robert Garcia to Fight Hub TV, reacting to Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, posting a photo on X of Jose Ramirez sitting in the back of an ambulance after his fight with Devin last Friday.
For Bill to give fans the impression that Haney had put Ramirez in an ambulance, it shows that he was in already in damage control mode immediately after the fight. He had to know that it was a poor performance from watching, and noting the negative reaction from the New York crowd, with a spatter of boos going on.
“He knows he’s lying to the world, and that’s what disappoints me,” said Robert about Bill. “He’s a grown man. They told us in the rules meeting that every fighter is going to go back to the street, and they’re going to have an ambulance. They’re all going to go into the ambulance and be checked by the doctor.”
If Bill thought he was going to get any traction out of mentioning Ramirez sitting in the back of the ambulance after Devin’s lackluster performance, he was fooling himself. Even if Haney’s punches had done that to him, it wouldn’t camouflage the horrible performance from him. All that running, holding, and the mad look of mad fear in Devin’s eyes. Fans saw all that.
Stock Dropping
“In New York, every fighter went to the back of the ambulance,” continued Robert. “The doctors checked them, they released them, and we got in the car, and the car drove us to the hotel. That’s exactly what happened, and he [Bill] knew what was going on. I don’t understand. He’s lying to himself. Bill is a grown man. Trying to lie to the fans and the crowd. Instead of apologizing for the type of fight your son [Devin] did. He ran, ran, and ran.”
At this point, Devin’s stock is dropping like the 1929 stock market crash. That performance by Devin was so bad that even if Ryan Garcia had won his fight against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in the main event, the rematch likely wouldn’t happen in October. Turki Alalshikh would know that it would be a bad omen to set up a rematch between Ryan and Haney after that non-effort from Haney.
“Don’t try to lie to the crowd that you hurt him and sent him to the hospital. That’s not true. When I see him, I’m going to tell him,” said Robert about Bill.
Dan Rafael and Tim Bradley etc. said the fight was boring. But after 12 rounds with Devin Haney, Jose Ramírez ended up in the back of an ambulance while Devin sat ringside, laughing and ready for the next challenge.
