In addition to the Knicks and Lakers, league personnel believe Malcolm Brogdon has another team with legitimate interest in his services: Houston, which has plenty of former Boston staffers who overlapped with Brogdon during his season with the Celtics. Head coach Ime Udoka’s Rockets are also one of the teams that is considering a move for injured Portland big man Robert Williams, sources said.

“Chaunce, the whole staff, was calling timeout. I turned literally to the ref on the sideline, clearly the ref didn’t want us to have a timeout, so we couldn’t get one. I get scratched in the face, I’m bleeding at the end. This one’s not on us.” — Malcolm Brogdon – 10:59 PM

Malcolm Brogdon sold the end of that game like a good veteran on a tanking team, but good lord that was a hack job performance from the refs.
I’d be setting expletive records in my postgame presser if I were Chauncey Billups. – 10:22 PM

More on this storyline
“At least a first-round pick” has thus been described as the necessary compensation for the Washington Wizards to part with table-setter Tyus Jones, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The same goes for Portland to move on from guard Malcolm Brogdon and Toronto with recently acquired Bruce Brown Jr. — not a straightforward floor general, but Brown is surely a reliable ball-handler, fresh off a championship with Denver. -via Yahoo! Sports / January 26, 2024
Portland Trail Blazers PR: INJURY UPDATE: Malcolm Brogdon (R Knee Contusion) is QUESTIONABLE for tomorrow’s game @ SAS. -via Twitter @TrailBlazersPR / January 25, 2024
Scotto: For Malcolm Brogdon, a lot of executives around the league think it would take at least a first-round pick to get him from Portland. I spoke with Brogdon recently and wrote about it on HoopsHype. He mentioned enjoying his role on the one hand being valued for his leadership, but it’s definitely been a challenge with the young guys because their emphasis is on the development of Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and Anfernee Simons. -via HoopsHype / January 25, 2024
Williams played in just six games for the Blazers this season before tearing a ligament in his knee. He was acquired via trade in the Jrue Holiday-Malcolm Brogdon swap, but Portland could look to move him again. The Blazers will be very open. That’s not up for debate. If they get the right deal in place, they will be open. … Robert Williams is somebody that is definitely available. -via Blazers Edge / January 23, 2024
While most of the attention and rumors have surrounded Jerami Grant and Malcolm Brogdon, NBA insider Chris Haynes revealed on his podcast that the team could look to trade Robert Williams III. There are some teams that are pondering making a move for Robert Williams. Now, I know Robert Williams is out for the season … but teams feel like he would be somebody that could get on the cheap right now and allow him to continue recovering, continue rehabbing in hopes that he can blossom back into the Robert Williams that we’ve seen when he was playing at a high level with the Boston Celtics. -via Blazers Edge / January 23, 2024
“The order in which (the trades) happened — Smart for Porzingis and Williams for Holiday — I hear caused some debate up there, but the conclusion of what Boston ended up with is a steal.” Said a veteran personnel man, “The Holiday part was a key, because they’d given up Smart. And as great as it is for Boston, for Milwaukee, seeing Jrue with the Celtics after they’d sent him to Portland for Lillard is tough. Are you kidding me? Jrue’s great. All-time great guy. He’s a winner. I mean, I know it was hard for Milwaukee to give him and Grayson Allen up, but, you know, his contract’s up after this season (player option for 2024-25). Damian’s got four more years (including his $63.2 million option for 2026-27). This is one of those things where I think they had to do it.” -via Heavy.com / December 29, 2023
