Jack Catterall is interested in fighting Ryan Garcia next after his disappointing performance in his recent debut at 147 against Harlem Eubank on July 5th.
Catterall Wants Garcia Fight
Garcia has a reported net worth of $50 million. He’s young and rich. He’s at the point where he can pick and choose the type of opponents he wants to fight. He’d likely opt for someone who would resonate with U.S fans.
Ryan (24-2, 20 KOs) is coming off a loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2nd, and he would surely refuse to fight a runner and clincher like Catterall. That’s not the kind of opponent that Kingry needs to rebuild his confidence after his defeat.
Catterall recently requested to fight on one of Turki Alalshikh’s cards, saying, “I’ll fight whoever you got for me. I’ll even put in the contract that I’ll restrict feints and jabs. Yours sincerely, Jack Jerry Catterall.”
It’s doubtful that Turki would want to use a defensive fighter like Catterall (31-2, 13 KOs) as the opponent for the popular Ryan Garcia.
U.S. Fans Demand Action
It would be a waste of time and money because U.S fans would NOT want to see that kind of fight. Catterall is viewed as the ‘British Shakur,’ and fights just as defensively as he does.
“Garcia on the front foot is coming off a defeat. I’m open to that fight. I’m open to these fights,” said Jack Catterall to the Ring Magazine YouTube channel. “I’ve never been in the position to turn fights. I want to fight the best. I think Garcia has been up there in the last couple of years as one best 140 and 147s. So, definitely, a name on the list.”
Welterweight Gauntlet: Catterall’s Test
- Shakhram Giyasov
- Karen Chukhadzhian
- Raul Curiel
If Catterall loses to one or all of those fighters, he might as well return from whence he came to the 140-lb division
