Scull Vows To ‘eat’ Canelo In Undisputed Super Middleweight Clash This Saturday, May 3rd

IBF super middleweight champion William Scull reiterated today during the Grand Arrivals in Riyadh that he plans to “eat‘ unified 168-lb champ Canelo Alvarez in their undisputed championship fight this Saturday, May 3rd on DAZN PPV in Saudi Arabia.

Spoiling Crawford?

Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) says his goal is to defeat Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and “Shut some mouths” of people who have been writing him off. He wants to snatch his three belts and spoil his October “big fight” against Terence Crawford.

That match can still happen, but without any super middleweight titles on the line. It would be up to Turki Alalshikh if he wants to go through with his plans on staging the high-priced Canelo-Crawford fight with Alvarez coming off a loss.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to anybody, but I’m here to win and that’s it. I’m going to eat him,” said William Scull to the media during today’s Grand Arrivals, letting people know that he plans to “eat” Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night in Riyadh.

“Now, I’m focused on what I have to do. I’m very excited because I’m here to shut some mouths and do what I have to do on Saturday.”

While only two years separate the 32-year-old Scull and Canelo, 34, there is a big difference in the amount of mileage they have on them. The Mexican star, Alvarez, has had a lot of wars during his long career against fighters like Gennadiy Golovkin. He’s starting to show the wear & tear of those battles now.

“Looking for the Best?”

“I’m always looking for the best, and I know something really good is coming for me,” said Canelo. “Mexican fighters go to other countries as the opponent. Now, I’m the A-side in Saudi Arabia, and that opens the door for other fighters from Mexico.”

Canelo is being more than a little disingenuous about him “always looking for the best.” He’s actually stopped taking on the “best” after his loss to Dmitry Bivol in 2022. That defeat took away Alvarez’s risk-taking ability. What’s left is a non-risk-taking Canelo, who has been on a glorified retirement tour ever since.

“That makes me feel proud to bring that to my country. I’m here to make history and motivate myself at this point in my career. As I always say that I’m proud to bring the Mexican flag everywhere I go,” said Alvarez.

“Canelo is accustomed to fighting tall fighters. There’s nothing that man hasn’t seen in 66 fights. So, no, he will not be surprised,” said commentator Sergio Mora, reacting to being asked if Alvarez will be able to handle the height and reach of Scull.

“That man is going to have to find magic in he bottle to do something special that only two fighters, two great fighters, two undefeated fighters, have been able to do against Canelo Alvarez. We’ll see if he can do it.”
