Serhii Bohachuk Vs. Mykal Fox: 154-lb Clash Set For May 17th In Los Angeles

Mykal Fox says he’s going to use his height advantage over former WBC interim junior middleweight champion Serhii Bohachuk in their fight next month on May 17th in Los Angeles.

The 6’3″ Fox (24-4-5 KOs) has been chosen as the opponent for Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs) for their co-feature fight. Fox says this is his debut at 154, and he rates Serhii as the top of the list of fighters he’ll have faced.

It’s a difficult fight for Mykal, 29, to take moving up in weight because he doesn’t have the power or the track record to say this is a winnable fight.

Bohachuk is ranked #1 WBC at 154, and his only defeats have come against Vergil Ortiz Jr. by a questionable 12-round majority decision last year and Brandon Adams by an eighth-round knockout in 2021.

“I’m about to take on a former interim world champion in my 154 debut. As of right now, it’s beat Serhii Bohachuk. I don’t know if it’s going to be a one-off. We’ll see how my body feels on fight night. I’m not making too many plans until after I’m done with him,” said Mykal Fox to MillCity Boxing, talking about whether he’ll return to the welterweight division after he faces Serhii Bohachuk on May 17th.

Fox’s Height Plan

“He can fight. He has long arms and likes to apply pressure. Some of his advantages, I can deal with. His height and everything, he’s not going to have those advantages. He does have a tremendous skill set. That’s one thing I’ll have to worry about dealing with. We’ve both been in high-level fights,” said Fox.

The punching power of Bohachuk is what Fox needs to be concerned with. He doesn’t mention it in this interview, but that’s the main problem. He’s going to get hit hard by Bohachuk, and he has better power than anyone he’s faced in the pro ranks.

“This one is definitely at the highest,” said Mykal when asked where he rates Bohachuk with all the guys he’s fought before. “He’s been a world champion or an interim world champion. This is definitely the biggest name on my resume. He’s the #1 on the list.”

Fight Breakdown

“He showed Vergil [Ortiz], we all punch hard up here,” said Fox about Bohachuk’s fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr. on August 10th last year. “He’s [Vergil Jr.] a big dude, but at 154, it balances out a little more. We’re going to be out in LA.

“I think he’s going to come out and be applying a lot of pressure. Probably a little more pressure than he’s used to doing because he has to come in a little closer. I have a four-inch height advantage over him. So a lot of what he normally does, he may have to sell out a little bit to close a little more distance.

“He’s a skilled fighter, but the plan is to walk him into some big counter-punches. If I can get him at middle range, I can then take advantage,” said Fox about Bohachuk.
