Shane Gaines hired as Merrimack cornerbacks coach


Merrimack hired Shane Gaines as its cornerbacks coach. Gaines was previously at Edinboro University as the defensive backs coach.

Before heading to Edinboro, Gaines coached defensive backs and was the special teams coordinator and defensive pass game coordinator at Susquehana University. He also had stints at Shippenburg University (graduate assistant), American International University (assistant coach) and his alma mater Salisbury University (assistant coach). Gaines also had a three-month stint at Alvernia College.

As a player, Gaines finished his career at Salisbury with 190 tackles. He also had seven interceptions and 25 pass breakups. The two-year captain was named 2015 NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year and the 2015 East Coast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year after recording a career-high 62 tackles.

The Baltimore native earned his undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary studies from Sailsbury in 2018. Gaines earned his master’s degree in Organizational Development and Leadership from Shippensburg.
