In terms of my most anticipated releases on mobile, I think few would rank higher than Songs of Conquest. Despite its spiritual inspiration Heroes of Might & Magic being well before my time there’s something about the mix of RPG-like action, magical rock-paper-scissors and genuine strategy that’s appealing.
But, I’m getting ahead of myself; Songs of Conquest is a hex-based strategy that’s just released for iOS and Android! In it, you pit stacks of infantry, monsters and other units against one another, working to overcome your enemy’s own army and using both the terrain and powers of the arcane arts to your advantage.
Rendered in lush 2.5D, Songs of Conquest boasts four factions for its launch: Whether that be feudal barony turned necromantic kingdom Loth, the remnant empire Arleon, ancient frog tribes of Rana, or the mercenary merchants of Barya. Each of these has distinctive traits, strengths and weaknesses that you’ll need to exploit and overcome in turn.
Strike the drums of war
Aside from the HOMM-like hex-based battles that take place, most of what you can expect from Songs of Conquest will be very familiar but no less interesting. That’s because it boasts a visually stunning world to explore, and equipment to find and upgrade your capabilities, while four different campaigns show you the titular Songs of Conquest of each faction as you forge an empire through strategy
For an upfront price of only $11.99, you can jump into a fantasy world of strategy, magic and mighty armies clashing. And with the mainline release already having four DLCs, there’s likely plenty of upcoming content already waiting in the wings for the future.
