The New Denpa Men is coming (back) to iOS and Android, bringing bizarre RPG action to mobile

  • The New Denpa Men is coming back to mobile
  • This bizarre creature-collecting RPG was a 3DS favourite, then made the jump to Switch
  • Now it’s set to hit mobile once more, could a global release be on the way?

Given Nintendo’s big push into mobile recently, it certainly seemed like only a matter of time before some previously Switch-exclusive titles made their way over to smartphones. I certainly didn’t expect one of them to be the strange and surreal RPG The New Denpa Men, however!

But according to the folks over at Gematsu, who cover Japanese launches in granular detail, that’s exactly what’s happening as The New Denpa Men is set to arrive on iOS and Android on March 10th The original was an early pioneer of the use of AR via the 3DS camera, something that’s going to be reportedly included in this new release.

Some of you may remember The Denpa Men as being one of the early 3DS releases, an AR-based RPG where you would collect the titular radio wave-dwelling Denpa men from around the real world and then pitting them against enemies in a series of dungeons.

Denpa denpa denpa

The Denpa Men franchise is not exactly Mario or Zelda, but it’s made more than a few appearances on Nintendo hardware over the years. And this won’t be the first time that developer Genius Sonority has ventured onto mobile either, as they did so with the original version of New Denpa Men, before it was rereleased on Switch.

So, yes, we might soon be playing a rerelease of a mobile game that was remastered on Nintendo Switch. Not confusing at all. And while the original New Denpa Men was purely Japan-exclusive, with the Switch rerelease being a global launch, we might have a chance of a proper worldwide release now.

Speaking of Nintendo, would you believe we’ve still got our list of the top 25 best Nintendo Switch RPGs being updated? With the Switch Two on the way, who knows if this piece of portable kit will soon sit back alongside mobile in our coverage? Stay tuned!
