Updates on Dan Muse, Rangers assistant coaches

Though the focus is on the Rangers roster, there is still a coaching staff to fill out. Mike Sullivan was one piece, and the Rangers still need to replace, at the very least, both Michael Peca (Chicago) and Phil Housley (fired). Dan Muse’s future is also uncertain, with Larry Brooks noting he could be headed to Pittsburgh to take over that head coaching position. If that’s the case, then all three assistant coaches would need to be replaced.

Arthur Staple is noting that, Muse’s status notwithstanding, David Quinn could be in the running to come over from Pittsburgh, though he is also interviewing to be their head coach, along with Dan Muse. Joe Sacco (Boston) is also under consideration.

I can’t see Quinn coming back to be an assistant when half the roster is still here from his head coaching stint. Ideally he gets the Pittsburgh job and Dan Muse stays. Though I do understand the concern about considering how his coaching tenure ended, coupled with the possibility of losing another promising coach in the organization like Kris Knoblauch.
