The Washington Capitals made three roster moves prior to Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center (7 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market): they activated defenseman Jakob Chychrun off of injured reserve, placed left-wing Sonny Milano on injured reserve, and recalled center Michael Sgarbossa from the AHL’s Hershey Bears.
Chychrun, 26, left the team’s 5-3 win over the New York Rangers on October 29 with a lower-body injury after playing just 1:50. A play where Chychrun’s injury occurred was not found but he left during the first period of the game and has missed the team’s last five games.
Alexander Alexeyev took Chychrun’s spot while he was out and will likely draw out of Washington’s lineup in St. Louis.
Milano, 28, suffered an upper-body injury in Washington’s 3-2 win against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday after playing just 10:00 in the game. He had been scratched for 10 consecutive games before getting back in for the team’s 4-2 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.
Milano is eligible to play vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, Washington’s next game after their visit to the Gateway City, as he will have served the seven-day minimum requirement to be activated from injured reserve.
Sgarbossa, 32, has appeared in two games with the Capitals this season. Sgarbossa, who is in his seventh season with Hershey, has recorded nine points (one goal) in seven games with the Bears in 2024-25. Sgarbossa’s eight assists rank second on Hershey and are tied for the seventh most in the AHL.
Washington enters Saturday’s game third in the Metropolitan Division with a 9-4-0 record (.692 points percentage) and two points behind Carolina (who has one game in hand) and the New Jersey Devils (with three) for the division lead.
Per the NHL media site, Jakob Chychrun has been activated from the injured reserve, indicating he’ll return tonight for the Capitals.
Sonny Milano has been placed on IR, and Mike Sgarbossa has been recalled from Hershey.#ALLCAPS
