Charlie Lindgren will start in goal when the Washington Capitals host the Dallas Stars on Thursday (7 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network in-market, ESPN+ out-of-market).
Head coach Spencer Carbery hinted on Wednesday that he will start the season alternating starts between him and Logan Thompson. The 29-year-old, who made 28 stops (.875 save percentage) in Washington’s 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, has started Washington’s last three games against Dallas dating back to 2022, posting an .892 save percentage in those contests where he and his team have gone 0-1-2.

Other than in net, Washington made no line changes from their 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.
Optional skate for the #Caps, as usual, ahead of 4-0-0 DAL tonight in DC. Based on the scratches’ skate, I’d expect the lines to look like:
Protas-Strome-Ovechkin
McMichael-Dubois-Wilson
Vrana-Lapierre-Mangiapane
Duhaime-Dowd-RaddyshChychrun-Carlson
Fehervary-McIlrath…— Tarik El-Bashir (@Tarik_ElBashir) October 17, 2024
Defenseman Matt Roy, who is day-to-day with a lower-body injury suffered in Saturday’s loss, has not skated this week.
Casey DeSmith, who put up a 25-save shutout in his Stars debut, a 2-0 win over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday, will start in net for Dallas.
DeSmith is 4-2-1- with a 2.38 GAA and .915 save percentage in seven career appearances vs. the Capitals. https://t.co/9BLexZdlzq

Dallas announced prior to the game that they re-signed starting goaltender Jake Oettinger, who could have become a restricted free agent on July 1, to an eight-year contract extension that carries an $8.25 million cap hit, the same deal Jeremy Swayman inked with the Boston Bruins last week.
The Stars will be without center Tyler Seguin and defenseman Matt Dumba (both lower-body) on Thursday night.
