The NHL announced on Monday that Washington Capitals defenseman Dylan McIlrath ($2018.23), Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj ($3385.42), and the two teams ($25,000 each) were all fined for unsportsmanlike conduct that went down in the pregame skate prior to Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round series on Sunday at Bell Centre.
The #NHL collected $65,403.65 in fines from the #Habs and #Caps after the two games in Montreal:
– $5,000 fine each for Josh Anderson & Tom Wilson
– $25,000 fine each for the two organizations
– $3,385.42 fine for Arber Xhekaj
– $2,018.23 fine for Dylan McIlrath— Priyanta Emrith (@HabsInHighHeels) April 28, 2025
It is unknown what happened. McIlrath did not play in Game 4, a 5-2 Washington win.
The NHL reportedly warned Washington and Montreal to both lower the temperature after a huge scrum at the end of the second period in Game 3 which included a fight between Capitals right-wing Tom Wilson and Canadiens right-wing Josh Anderson on Washington’s bench.
Wilson and Anderson were both fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct on Saturday.
Game 5 of the best-of-seven series will take place on Wednesday at Capital One Arena (7 PM ET, Monumental Sports Network locally, ESPN nationally) with Washington holding a 3-1 lead.
Canadiens and Capitals also fined $25K for unsportsmanlike conduct.
I know NHL doesn’t like it…but it’s fun to watch https://t.co/4Jyxtrt0SD
