The Washington Capitals signed left-wing Brandon Duhaime to a two-year contract that carries a $1.85 million cap hit after the 27-year-old hit the unrestricted free agent market at 12 noon ET on Monday.
Duhaime scored five goals and 13 points in 80 games with the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche last season. He was traded to the Mile High City for a 2026 third-round pick on March 7 and also scored a goal in Colorado’s 11 postseason games.

Duhaime averaged 2:06 per game on the penalty kill with Minnesota (third among the team’s forwards) and 2:11 with Colorado (third).
In 211 career regular-season games, Duhaime has 20 goals and 40 points.
The team finished the regular season with a .79 penalty-killing efficiency (19th in the NHL).
The Capitals currently have $181,667 in NHL salary cap space with Nicklas Backstrom (hip) expected to remain on long-term injured reserve next season but are under if T.J. Oshie (back) does not play.
