After a controversial stint in Boston, Kyrie Irving is set to face his former team (the Celtics) in the NBA Finals.
Despite saying he wanted to continue playing in Boston, Kyrie signed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets and instantly became a villain to the Celtics fans.
Here’s what NBA Twitter was saying when Irving decided to leave Boston in free agency.
Kyrie Irving does a great job here not explaining at what point he went from committing to re-sign with the Celtics to always wanting to play close to home on the Nets pic.twitter.com/6IMEFPKllQ

Trying to explain to my 6-year-old why Kyrie Irving didn’t want to play for the #Celtics anymore and I’m having a time, guys

Hey man, remember when Kyrie Irving got all pissy because that footage of him and KD talking the hallway came out, and he acted all offended? Good times

Can say what you want about Kyrie Irving, but it should be awfully telling that two of the league’s best players have wanted to team up with him. LeBron and KD aren’t dummies.

Sources: Kyrie Irving tired of time in Brooklyn, ready to move on.

Would love to know how long this was Kyrie Irving’s plan. How long after his pronouncement he’d stay in Boston, how long after he filmed that commercial with his dad about retiring his number in the Garden rafters was this his goal? #Celtics #Nets

Kyrie Irving is unquestionably a better player than Kemba Walker. Of that fact there is no doubt.
Also.
The Celtics will be better with Kemba than with Kyrie #NBA

Kemba Walker’s an All-Star. Hell of a pivot and consolation prize for #Celtics. Danny Ainge should be commended for that. But don’t pretend this was Plan A. Plan A was Kyrie Irving working out, then dealing for an excited-to-contribute Anthony Davis. Those options were removed.

Al Horford is the bigger loss to the Celtics than Kyrie Irving is.

Kemba Walker isn’t as good as Kyrie Irving is talent-wise. Neither was Isaiah Thomas, but yet the Celtics seemed to play better with him in their system. So my question is: why wouldn’t it work out with Kemba then?

Just curious: Are #Celtics so incredibly in on Kemba Walker because of the player or because he’s basically the antithesis of everything everyone grew to hate about Kyrie Irving?
