The 2024-25 college basketball season concluded Monday night with Florida cutting down the nets at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The 2025-26 college basketball season is 209 days away from tipoff, but that hasn’t stopped “way-too-early” rankings from dropping today.
Most programs are still working the transfer portal to complete their rosters for next season and Indiana is no exception. As of today, the Hoosiers have just four players on their roster.
Here’s a first look at where Big Ten programs stand in the “way-too-early” rankings for the 2025-26 season:
ESPN.com: Purdue is No. 2 in the early rankings from ESPN, followed by Michigan (No. 5), UCLA (No. 10), Wisconsin (No. 14), Michigan State (No. 18) and Ohio State (No. 23). Illinois and Oregon are among the five teams listed as “next in line.”
USA Today: The Bruins are the top team here at No. 4, followed by Michigan (No. 9), Purdue (No. 11), Michigan State (No. 15) and Wisconsin (No. 19).
The Sporting News: Michigan State sets the early pace for the Big Ten at the Sporting News at No. 5. Purdue follows the Spartans at No. 6 along with Michigan (No. 11), UCLA (No. 14) and Oregon (No. 22).
On3.com: The Wolverines are the top Big Ten team in the early rankings from On3 at No. 11, followed by Purdue (No. 12), Illinois (No. 19), Wisconsin (No. 20), UCLA (No. 21) and Michigan State (No. 23).
The Athletic: The Athletic has Purdue at No. 1 in its initial rankings, followed by Michigan (No. 5), Michigan State (No. 7), UCLA (No. 20), Illinois (No. 21) and Ohio State (No. 24).
FoxSports.com: Purdue is the top team in the early Fox Sports rankings at No. 2, followed by UCLA (No. 9), Michigan (No. 15), Michigan State (No. 18) and Iowa (No. 25).
Sports Illustrated: The Boilermakers are also No. 2 in the early SI top 25, followed by UCLA (No. 9), Michigan (No. 12), Wisconsin (No. 13), Michigan State (No. 15) and Oregon (No. 18).
247Sports: Purdue is also the top team in the early 247Sports top 25 for next season, although the Boilermakers just cracked the top 10 at No. 9. Other Big Ten teams in the rankings include Oregon (No. 12), Michigan (No. 17), UCLA (No. 20) and Wisconsin (No. 21).
